The Connacht Rugby community is mourning the death of Seán Coppinger, a valued colleague and lifelong supporter of the club, who passed away following a short illness. Originally from Mervue in Galway City, Seán joined Connacht Rugby in 2015 and spent 11 years contributing to the organization’s daily operations with dedication, passion, and pride.

Seán was a cherished member of the Connacht Rugby family, known for his warmth, kindness, humour, and commitment to his work. He was also an active member of the Connacht Clan supporters group and maintained a strong connection with the club beyond his professional responsibilities. Earlier in October 2026, despite his health challenges, he presented the players with their matchday jerseys ahead of the Saracens Champions Cup fixture, demonstrating his enduring passion for the team.
Connacht Rugby CEO Willie Ruane paid tribute to Seán, describing his passing as a heartbreaking loss and praising his character, kindness, humour, and love for the club. Ruane recalled the positive impression Seán made on players and staff throughout his 11 years with the organisation, expressing sympathy for his family and friends. Club captain Cian Prendergast also remembered Seán as a familiar face who was always willing to help the players and took great pride in his role.
Connacht Rugby will honour Seán’s legacy at Friday’s United Rugby Championship interprovincial fixture against Leinster at Dexcom Stadium. His contribution to the club, friendship with colleagues, and devotion as a supporter will remain an important part of the Connacht Rugby community’s memories of him.
